Il Mezzogiorno: Italy's unspoiled southern region

The Italians call the region south of Naples 'Mezzogiorno'. Apart from Naples and Amalfi this region was isolated for so long, that it has developped a culture and tradition of its own. It is one of Italy's poorest regions, except for Amalfi, that caters for the jet set. The mountainous interior is remote, unvisited but also of enchanting beauty. The villages have a typical, charming and enchanting atmosphere. The lovely sea side offers long stretches of beach. Ancient Roman Pompeii and ancient Greek Paestum in Campania are of great renown. The baroque city of Lecce in Puglia is also well worth a visit. Holidays in the Mezzorgiorno are a unique experience and will be absolutely completely different from a stay in any other part of Italy.

  Amalfi/Campania
Chaotic yet spectacular Naples is the capital of the Amalfi/Campania region. Amalfi's coastline is of unrivalled beauty, dotted with thriving, historical villages. The Amalfi Coast has inspired many artists and writers, like Wagner and Goethe. The mountainous, rocky interior makes for long walks. The beauty of Cilento's national park is just stunning.
  Calabria
The 'toe' of Italy's 'boot' has a rugged, mountainous countryside. The remote and unspoiled interior was impenetrable for a long time. Some picturesque villages in the hills, like Tropea, Stilo and Gerace, now atrract more and more visitors every year. Most tourists spend their time at the Ionian coast or near Tropea. But Calabria still has plenty of undiscovered, virgin areas.
  Puglia
Puglia, the 'heel' of the Italian 'boot', is a recently added destination in our programme. Puglia is a richer and more developped region, mainly because of its production of olive oil and good wine. Lecce, the 'Florence of the south', is an absolute cultural and architectural highlight. In central Puglia the typical 'trulli' buildings can be found, curious cone shaped houses, of a still unknown origin. Puglia has a lovely coastline with both rocky and sandy stretches of beach.
